Where rawl bolts are used

Rawl bolts fix base plates and brackets to RCC roofs, concrete pedestals and solid brick walls or parapets. Because the sleeve expands along its length, it spreads the load, which suits masonry as well as concrete.

Ours are MS (mild steel), zinc coated, in the M8, M10 and M12 sizes installers use most. The size is the bolt's diameter, 8, 10 or 12 mm, not its length.

Fitting a rawl bolt

Drill the hole to suit the sleeve, which is wider than the bolt, and clear out the dust. Take the bolt out, push the sleeve in until it is flush with the surface, then pass the bolt through the base plate into the sleeve and tighten it until the sleeve grips.

Stay away from edges and mortar joints, and avoid hollow blocks, where the material can crack or crumble.
